A Multimedia Exploration of the Story of Vulcan, Blending Film, Poetry, Sound, Music, Art and Science
Join us at Homerton College, Cambridge, for an exciting evening hosted by local artist and engineer Diana Scarborough, with poet and Sheffield Hallam lecturer Carolyn Waudby.
The event, which takes place on Thursday 28 November, will include a screening of the Cradle of Fire short film, an artist talk with Q&A, poetry, retrospective monologue readings drawn from Sheila Thomas’ writings, as well as soundscapes created by Kim Cunio, all inspired by Cradle of Fire’s muse, Vulcan, god of fire, furnaces and volcanoes.
Cradle of Fire is a not-for-profit, Arts Council England funded R&D initiative that explores diverse themes including film, steelmaking, music and sound making, creative community, geology, volcanic connections, myth, craftsmanship, poetry and the spoken word. Travel through our website pages to find out more.
Join us in the Griffin Bar afterwards for informal chats with the team, including Diana and Carolyn, and enjoy a drink or two. The bar is located on the ground floor of the Cavendish building and will be open until 11pm.
This event is kindly sponsored by Homerton Changemakers. The core principles of their programme aim to build the future of education through student insight and skills. Their objectives are to encourage being part of creating a more just, regenerative and sustainable world, connecting academic work to lifework: being the change you want to see. Sentiments and objectives that the Cradle of Fire team wholeheartedly embrace! We’re looking forward to a deeper connection with this inspired initiative through approaches that might be generated by this event.
We welcome feedback into the Cradle of Fire project at any stage. Feel free to get in touch with us with comments and potential contributions, in the bar at the Cambridge screening event or, wherever you are, via our Contact page.
Check our Eventbrite page for further details of the screening and book your free tickets here!
